Tayto is an Irish crisp brand founded by Joe Murphy in 1954 in Dublin, at a time when most crisps in Ireland were imported from the United Kingdom. It is credited with inventing the first Cheese and Onion flavoured crisps. Its range includes Tayto Crisps, Hunky Dorys, Tayto Occasions crisps, Tayto Lentil Chips and the Banshee Bones flavour. The brand name has become synonymous with crisps in Ireland. Early crisps were packed by hand in waxed paper and delivered to retailers in airtight tins.
