Description

St. Bernardus is a Belgian brewery in Watou, near the French border, with roots in the Trappist monks who settled in Watou in the early 1900s after leaving Mont des Cats in France. The monks made cheese there, and the dairy was later taken over and expanded by Evariste Deconinck. After the Second World War, Deconinck was invited by the Trappist monks of Westvleteren to brew beer. Today the company runs the brewery with a flagship store, the Bar Bernard and a guesthouse in the former cheese-making house. It also offers visits, bike rental, beer experiences, meeting and event rooms, and a webshop.
