Metzgerei Max Gruber is an independent butcher in Spalt that started its own business on 1 July 2004. The shop is housed in a converted half-timbered house. The owners buy their livestock from farmers nearby, transport the animals themselves and use modern stunning equipment so that slaughter is gentle. Sausage, ham and other meat products are made to traditional recipes with as few additives as possible. The company says it keeps the path of the meat as transparent as possible and points to open-air stalls with straw for animal welfare.
