Description

Chalone Vineyard is the oldest producing vineyard in Monterey County, with plantings dating to 1919. It sits in the Gavilan Mountains, 1,800 feet above California's Salinas Valley, on limestone-based soils similar to those in Burgundy. Dick Graff made the first vintage under the Chalone label in 1966, and its Chardonnay placed third at the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Today it focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with limited amounts of Pinot Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Syrah, all estate grown and bottled. It is a member of Foley Family Wines and has a tasting room in Carmel.
