Balfegó is a Spanish bluefin tuna company whose stated mission is the capture, feeding, study and marketing of bluefin tuna in a socially and environmentally responsible way. It catches wild tuna in the Western Mediterranean in May and June and keeps them in aquaculture facilities about 5 km from L'Ametlla de Mar in Tarragona. This allows it to sell fresh tuna all year, and it harvests the fish individually using the Japanese ikejime method. Each portion carries a QR code that gives traceability information. The company is a certified B Corp, also sells superfrozen tuna at -60 degrees, and runs a gastronomic space called Tunateca.
