Anaerobic Honey Bernardina Cerro Verde, El Salvador Bernardina is an extremely rare variety discovered in El Salvador in 2008 by Ruperto Bernardino Merche, farm manager at Finca Los Bellotos. He noticed five unusual trees whose cherries smelled and tasted distinctly different from the surrounding Bourbon. DNA testing showed it to be an Ethiopian heirloom variety, likely brought to El Salvador in the 1930s and left undiscovered for decades.
